Well, my own one sits in a room that gets up to about 30C, so if yours has AC you should be fine.

It might be worth popping open the case and checking that there is heat transfer compound on the CPU cooler and that it's making contact with the case.  I did add a couple of cheap RAM-sinks on the top of the case - above the CPU.

Having said that, I'd suspect the hardware (possibly the PSU).  It would be good if you could hook up a monitor and keyboard so you can see what's happened when it hangs.

When it hangs neither the serial console nor the monitor show something.
It completely hangs. I try to replace with another box
Thank you again for your help!

My First Post/reply! Sorry if short…

I too noticed this locking up issue when I first purchased one for my friends company.

I found that there was a very large amount of Inertupt errors on the NIC's so I turned on device polling which reduced the errors down to a more resonable amount however I still found it locked up but just not as frequent (Days instead of a few hours).

After trying a few different Hard Drives that I new were in good working order I still found the issue kept popping up. I guessed it was a heat issue and used a Compact Flash Card Instead (embedded image). There was no issues after that. But this might not be an option if you want to use all the packages

Oh, the Microdrives (CF form hard disks) work well in these - I've got a 4 GB one in mine.  If heat is an issue (though 2.5" drives do run relatively cool) it may be worth, as Hass said, looking to using CF instead of HD.

                Where did you buy it?

I'm not sure - I bought it some time back with the intention of using it in a digital camera.  It is likely though that I bought it from Insight (insight.com) or Expansys (expansys.com).

                    Thank you again Cry Havok!
Can I ask you some questions?
Do you boot pfsense with acpi enable or disable?
                    Make some difference?

Enabled currently, but it didn't seem to make any difference.

Have you turned off USB 2.0 in Bios ???
                        Mine did the same (hanging)

                        Microsoft gives you "Windows"
Opensource gives you the whole house

I think the BIOS settings are default - I don't remember changing anything except the processor throttling on overheat.

You have to turn off USB 2.0
                            There is an option somewhere.
Don't disable the hole USB stuff, just USB2.0

                              Thank you Rasty64bit,
I will try to disable usb 2.0 as soon as possible
                              Thank you again

Did it work when you dissabled USB 2.0? I'm thinking about buying some FX5620 and i'm trying to learn about the problems.

                                  Hi VaCUm,
I have changed the box with another one, and it works without problem (the uptime is > 7 days)
When I 'll return in office I'll test the previous box with the usb 2 disabled.

The only problem I've had with mine is the fact that it uses RealTek for the network.  If I saturate my 20 Mb pipe I'm seeing 50% CPU time handling interrupts :(

On the other hand, that leaves the other 50% for running Squid etc, which is generally more than enough :)

I've had one of these for over a year on my production network with a full install on a microdrive. Never had a problem with it.

There may be something to the box getting too hot with a SFF IDE HD inside. I have a similar sized passively cooled box that doesn't work reliably with an internal HD and the case closed - it overheats. Haven't tried a HD in my FX5620.
