New to pfsense need some install help

What version of m0n0wall? It could be that you're suffering from a problem introduced in FreeBSD 6.
Easy test, grab a copy of the FreeBSD 6.2 install ISO and see if you can get it working :)
If you want more help then knowing such details as what's happening when the "fatal trap" message appears would be useful. More information on your hardware is also essential (motherboard, network cards, type of hard disk, etc).

Im running m0n0wall 1.231
Ill get more info from the "fatal trap" message, also im not sure about the exact hardware in the machine ill get that also…

Well I tried version 1.0.1 also… same thing
About the error I get
fault code: supervisor read, page not present

What if you try the 1.3 beta of m0n0wall. That too uses FreeBSD 6, so if you find the same problem there then it's a generic FreeBSD/hardware issue.

Well I tried m0n0wall 1.3b3 and I had the same problem… So I take it that its a freebsd/hardware issue... so next step is to list all the hardware to find whats causing the crash?

Well I have no idea what I did lol… I took the whole computer apart, there were some left over wires in there, a ide cable hooked up to nothing, ect ect
Then I tried 4 diff cdrom/dvdrom drives still nothing
hooked everything back up to how it was(besides the parts i listed) and my original m0n0wall would not work.... I got a brand new floppy and reburnt m0n0wall and I got that working again... I figured i would try pf with a new cd and new floppy..(tried 1.0.1) and it worked =/ its up and running...Im very suprised... Hopefully its not one of those works once then stops working thing... well I need another nic card so i can hook up both internet connections.. Anyone have any good suggestion for a cheap nic that will work with m0n0 and pf... Thanks

The FreeBSD 6.2 hardware list will tell you what will work. However, Intel NICs are generally the best buy you can make - avoid RealTek if you can (on my 1.2 GHz box I'm seeing 50% CPU time on interrupts with RealTek NICs if I saturate my 20 Mb pipe).

Intel Desktop gigabit cards are the best. Even if you do not have gigabit they are better due to their larger buffers which decrease interrupt usage. Best deal for 30$ a piece.

AFAIK Inel Server NICs have a different interrupt handling with further reduced CPU utilization.
They are more expensive than Desktop NICs but there must be a reason behind Intel offering those two versions, right?Please let me know if anyone has more details on the differences!
