I will be building an ALIX system to run primarily in 802.11a mode, but would like to have the option for 802.11b/g clients to connect as well.  The CM9 card is an 802.11a/b/g card, and it does have the ability for two antennas to be connected, but am I able to have both modes running at the same time, or will I have to get a second CM9 card if I want both frequencies?

The card is only able to provide 2.4 GHz OR 5 GHz band, but not simultaneously. You should get an ALIX with 2 minipcis and 2 cm9s for what you want to do. However you currently can't bridge both to the same interface as multibridges are not supported yet. Running a seperate subnet at least at one of them will work though.
