      Hi,

Could somebody point out what went wrong in my case. I burned pfsense image 1.2RC3 embedded on a 512Mb CF card.
This is what I get if I don't press any keys:

      PC Engines ALIX.2 v0.98
      640 KB Base Memory
      261120 KB Extended Memory

      01F0 Master 848A SanDisk SDCFB-512
      Phys C/H/S 993/16/63 Log C/H/S 993/16/63
      ðàøøøøø€øððøø€€ø€€ððððø€øø€øð€€ø€€ø€€ðððø€€ø€€øøøø€øøø€ð€øø€øøøøðððððxàààðð

      and system hangs there

And this is what I get after pressing enter key

      PC Engines ALIX.2 v0.98
      640 KB Base Memory
      261120 KB Extended Memory

      01F0 Master 848A SanDisk SDCFB-512
      Phys C/H/S 993/16/63 Log C/H/S 993/16/63
      /
      FreeBSD/i386 boot
      Default: 0:ad(0,a)/boot/loader
      boot: ððððððøø€€øøøððø€€€€ø€€ðxàøø€øøøð€€€øøøøðððxàààðð

I don't know what to try next?

      Thanks

Well, I already read the mentioned post. Let me say it this way: Is there any way I could get this working without booting into freedos which has to be on specific geometry 128mb CF card, and changing bios version. It's just too much for me at this point. Could the next version of pfsense just work, regardless of what bios I have. I'm willing to wait for new version of pfsense rather than updating the bios.

          Thanks

Not when the BIOS has bugs that we can't easily work around, that's why you have to upgrade the BIOS.

I'll second this.  We have a pfSense box in production that started out rather randomly flakey.  After some experimentation we checked the manufacturer website and found there was a new BIOS that fixed some PCI timing issues.  Loaded it and everything works great since!
