Multi WAN + QoS (traffic shapping)
-
Dear All,
I've been playing with pfSense and trying to use it as our main firewall. We have Two links one DSL and one Cable, and I was interested in balancing the two links.
I would like to give weights to the links as the DSL is usually slower, I would increase the weight on the Cable link as also I would need to use QoS to limit the bandwidth between the two links.I see that the QoS Wizard script does work for only one Interface, anyone had experience setting up QoS for two interfaces where both are assymetric and each with different link speeds.
Cable = 16Mb Down , 2Mb Up
DSL = 6Mb Down, 512Kb UPDoes the QoS on pfSense only does Packet Shapping or does it do truly prioritization ?
Thank you very much,
Charles Gomes

You can make simple ratios in the load balance pools. (Add the cable connection twice and the DSL once to have twice the traffic go out the cable connection.)
Then you can make different pools for different protocols if you want more of a certain kind of traffic on one link.

Have you ever applied something similar to this ? Do you have an example ?
If I add the cable twice won't the link be saturated and discard packets ? -
It just means that it will start two sessions on the cable for every one on the DSL. I don't have a screen-shot handy but if you follow the guide, you just add the cable connection twice.
