Turned out to be easier than I thought. Got everything updated. Use the package manager to upgrade to 0.4 and let me know how it works.

        hello,
i have tested the 0.3x Veriosn in russia, but i see always "grimbelfixe" in the log viewer, so i think the old version has no unicode support, do you know if 0.4 works with unicode?

        thanks

I have a 1.2 RC4 box with imspector, but it doesn't log anything.

I tried debug mode and it works fine and even shows activity when i have conversations, but nothing gets logged.

Nope no changes there. I'm not sure what all it takes to implement. You should contact Lawrence his email is on http://imspector.org/

If your not using imspector 0.4 please upgrade first. File logging or mysql logging? Any error messages?

                  Hello,

for your information, this is the answer from "lawrence":

Theres nothing new in the way of unicode support in 0.4. Mind you, theres no real unicode support in imspector, It will log the raw bytes from the client, and this should include unicode and utf8.

That said, some clients or client configurations could generate multiple format messages, and IMSpector is logging the "ASCII" one.  I would need to see packet captures to know.

I have tested MSN with UTF8 characters and had good results, though.

                  Lawrence

Can you try out the mySQL logging to see how it works with UTF-8 characters? I know the data type on the table is a blob so it should support it. I have a feeling with the file logging it is saving an ANSI file.

Is there a guide on how to enable mysql logging from a fresh install of pfsense?

IE, install mysql, create necessary users and tables?

                      Thanks

You need a remote machine running mySQL. I'm working on testing out the UTF-8 support. I put chinese characters in the log file and they correctly display with the log viewer. I now just need to test with a IM client to see if it saves the characters into the log file correctly.

rsw686, thanks for testing it, at the moment i cannot test it with cyrillic because the pfs.machine is in production…
