System logs file gone after reboot ?
-
Hello,
I was testing 1.2 RC-5 and decided to upgrade to 1.2 Reelase yesterday,
system rebooted this morning and I noticed the log files are from the reboot time only … strange I did not notice that in RC-5
so is it possible to keep the log files on a hard disk installation. -
No.
Logs are stored in RAM and lost on reboot.
–> You need a syslog server if you want to keep the logs. -
El cheapo here :o
Why have a pc run all the time just to keep the syslog file!
It might be simple to run something like 'newsyslog' before overwritting the file,
but then this might also be off-toping -

Remote syslog.

Remote syslog.
I got that … it's fine for the debug,
it's great for the monitoring too ;D
It is just that once things are running ok, i might not need to syslog all the time. ( or when I am not here)
I will probably syslog to the dmzI dig into the rc script and found out the 'clog' things (embedded yeah i got that ! and probably for speed) ... so I see it's not a config option >:(
what if ... ???look what I found :D http://www.mail-archive.com/support@pfsense.com/msg11745.html
