WAN configuration and connection issue
-
Hi All,
I have this chronic problem regarding pfSense installation that I can't seem to figure out. The ISP gave a single public ip 222.xxx.xx.66/255.255.255.248, when I set this info on the WAN interface plus other info like DNS servers I can't get any internet connection but when I use Linux and Windows using the same info I have no problem. This always happens when there is only one public IP given, I have no problem when a whole subnet of /29 is given. What do you think is causing this problem? I asked my officemate and he said it might be due to arp? Not sure if this reliable though.
This is my network diagram:

What gateway address?

Sorry, I don't get it.
When you say your WAN is 222.0.0.66/255.255.255.248 you are defining a /29 subnet, right?
How does that correlate with "only one IP", assuming the ISP assigns this /29 to you only? What about the other 5 hosts (and which one is the gateway)?from IP calculator Version 0.35.2 2005/07/07
Address: 222.0.0.66
Netmask: 255.255.255.248 = 29
Wildcard: 0.0.0.7
=>
Network: 222.0.0.64/29
Broadcast: 222.0.0.71
HostMin: 222.0.0.65
HostMax: 222.0.0.70

222.xxx.xx.65 is the gateway I used, it works on Linux or Windows but not pfSense, I don't know why.

Hosts/Net: 6Yes it is a /29 subnet. This buffles me, when I looked at the modem the subnet says 255.255.255.255, when I connect a windows or Linux box to the modem and used 222.xxx.xx.65 as gateway it works, but not on pfSense.

Ah, I've had "fun" with this type of arrangement before.
When you connect your Linux or Windows box, are you using DHCP?

No, I'm using the public static ip provided that is 222.xxx.xx.66 and used .65 as gateway, I wonder why it doesn't work with pfSense. What so special about the other OS' that pfSense can't do the same?

Try setting the netmask to 255.255.255.255. Counter intuitive I know, but I've had ADSL modems that required hosts to use this configuration.
