Nokia IP330
-
Hi,
I am trying to get pfsense working on a Nokia IP 330 Model IP 2331.
I removed the HD and set it up in another computer.
I tried just puting it back into the Nokia, it didn't work
I tried changing the config and then placing it back in the Nokia, it also didn't work. What happens is, it boots up, FreeBSD starts either automatically or after I press F1,
then I get a black and white screen looking something like this
BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB B B B BBBBBBBBBBB B BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB B BBBBBBBBB BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB B BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB B BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB B BBBBBBBBBBBBB BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB B BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB B BBBBBBBBBBBBBBB BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB B BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB B BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB B BBBBBBBBBBBBBB BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB B BBBBBBB BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB B BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB B B B B B BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB B B BBBBBBBBBBBBBB B BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB
I don't get Bs but instead compeletely black boxes.
To me it looks like a terminal problem, but I have tried all terminal software I could find.
Any idea what could be the problem? Alternatively could somebody send me a working config file for an IP 330 preferable one that was tested on a Model IP 2331.
Thanks,
Christian

Try another cable. If that doesn't help I guess your serial port is broken. Does the biosoutput show up like this too?

The cable is not the problem.
I can use it to go into the bios and the boot is also ok until after The 'F1 to start FreeBSD' prompt.
Before I tried to install pfsense on it, OpenBSD was installed and that worked fine, but just to be sure I'll try a couple of different cables today.
Also regardless of the cable shouldn't pfsense start automatically and enable web access on one LAN port?

It boots up til the point where you have to assign interfaces. It'S preconfigured with sis0 and sis1 (to directly run on WRAP or Soekris platforms). In case it detects an interface missmatch it will ask you for reassignment at the shell. Install the hdd in a different machine, then download the config.xml. Edit the LAN and WAN section to map to physical interfaces of the nokia. upload the config and move the harddisk before it boots up again to the nokia. Now you should be able to access the webgui at the nokia. You probably should enable ssh too at system>advanced to have an alternative connection to your shell later.

it is your cable or the software your using. i have a 2331 and its working with pfsense

My bet is on the cable as well. There are many different cable configurations. You need the correct one. If you can't find one that works let me know and I will figure out the pinout on mine.

The last time I installed a different operating system on a IP330 I had to manually assign the hardware addresses to each interface. It's been about year, but I also had to manually redirect all output to serial.
