Getting high pings in games when using traffic shaper
-
Hi there,
Whenever I've got a torrent downloading and using the torrent queue my web surfing is fine but my pings in games shoots way up. When I stop the torrent all is well again, can anyone give me any advice on how I can have torrents going but still get a decent ping??
thanks!

Well… Priorize the traffic of the game ;)
First find out which ports your game uses and then create accordingly rules. -
Depending on the way the application is performing the ping (for example if it just uses ordinary icmp for that) your gaming traffic might have low delay if already prioritized and just the icmp ping falls to the default queue and is reporting a wrong value then.

hmm never thought of that, but yeah I added the rules in traffic shaper and my game still 'reports' that I'm not getting a low ping. Is there a way to prioritize the ICMP request? or another way to get the 'real' ping?

There is a dropdown for ICMP somewhere when running the wizard. Try to set it to the same prioritylike your gaming settings (probably high) and see if that gets you better pingtimes.
