Ntpd not updating
-
Is NTPd supposed to update itself at a regular interval? I have only one entry in the log from when I first boot up the firewall and then no further updates…
My computers when set to look to the firewall for their time report the the server has not been updated for too long a period of time and then do not sync.
Thanks!
(Running PFSense 1.2release on a Dell Dimension 550r)

Yeah I can also replicate problems with this. It's telling clients it isn't synchronized, even though it is. Looking into it.

I take that back actually, it does work, just takes some time to sync up initially when first started before it will provide a usable sync. It should sync up periodically once running. I'll keep an eye on mine.

I just moved some stuff around tonight so at this point Ive been running just over two hours…
A resync worked just now. I thought I had a couple of days on it when I tried earlier however...
Thanks!
Ill keep an eye on it here also... ;)

There have been a number of other threads on this, where I've muttered about how poor IMO the OpenNTPd software is compared to the ISC NTPd, particularly with sync time (hours vs minutes).

That's actually exactly what I was talking about in our dev IRC channel yesterday. Its logging sucks, its functionality is weird, it just seems to be a general PITA. I'm strongly considering replacing it with FreeBSD's stock ntpd (which I believe is ISC's).

I had done some searching before posting but did not see what I thought I was seeing… But since its a buggy product I guess theres no telling what else will have problems...
Thanks for looking. Im just trying to avoid to much traffic out of here to the time servers... 8)

It is, and I for one would be grateful if that happened. I'm too used to being able to set iburst and know that within a couple of minutes of booting up my clock will be synced.
