If you encounter a defect, any additional information you can provide (like logs or output from trying to run the dhcp server manually) will be very helpful.  As much information as you can provide to help identify the cause of the defect so that the developers can quickly address the issue.

I did attempt to start the dhcp server with the gui with no luck.  Says it started but still showed the X.  And no service was present.

              Using

              1.2.1-TESTING-SNAPSHOT
built on Tue Jul 8 07:24:59 EDT 2008

              Same issue.  No DHCP server.

Just noticed also it the system doesnt seem to use the dns provided to it by my hardware routers dhcp service for its own needs. I had to fill in the dns servers on System/General Setup. Before that the package page wouldn't populate and the time client couldnt get to any server I gave it to look at. Ill go to my modem direct tomorrow and test.

I can confirm this it does look like DHCP is broken again after the earlier fix that did appear to work.

                  Just tried - pfSense-Full-Update-1.2.1-TESTING-SNAPSHOT-20080708-0725.tgz (08-Jul-2008 04:02 - 38M)

Same snapshot…I can confirm the same problem...also with the earlier pfSense-Full-Update-1.2.1-TESTING-SNAPSHOT-20080708-0410.tgz as well.

I have an earlier snapshot running somewhere else, and it seems to be working there, I not in front of it so I can't get the build date presently...

Everything else seems great though! :D

                      It was working on;

                      pfSense-Full-Update-1.2.1-TESTING-SNAPSHOT-20080708-0032.tgz (07-Jul-2008 21:10 - 38M)

but then got broke again when the loadbalance got fixed IMHO.

Ive put my system back in place heading up my network against the modem.  Still seems that I need to have dns servers listed on the General Setup page and that my ISP's DHCP assigned servers are not automatically used.  Not a problem here but seems different from the 1.2R.  I can test more but was wondering if anyone else was seeing this, or if its expected behavior?

Great Job to the dev's by the way!

This has happened to me before and they began to work after a reboot.  I will pay attention to what Im doing to possibly cause this.

I dont get " syslogd: kernel boot file is /boot/kernel/kernel " after clearing logs when this happens…

I cant blank out the "dns Server" lines on the general setup page and reproduce this.
I will have to reinstall from cd later to see if I can duplicate it… I believe it only happens after a fresh install.

                                    Scratch that…

Im not using "dns forwarder"  (while disabled it still seems to load on boot up though)

                                    Im using DHCP

I blanked the DNS servers lines on the General Setup page.

As clients began to renew they were not given a dns server.

Rebooted about an hour or a little more ago.

Generally I assign my clients a static address via DHCP.  These two that were affected were not set up for this yet.

You mean if it goes to 100% again?

Mine normally runs at 1-3% normally…

It shows it's going through that part whether or not it's enabled, it doesn't start it if it isn't enabled.

This is different from 1.2 release?  I believe this is expected behavior, if you don't enable the DNS forwarder and don't configure your own DNS servers, clients don't get DNS servers assigned. If you want them to use your ISP's DNS servers I would recommend turning on the DNS forwarder. No reason not to, it's silly to not run a caching DNS server on your network when it's readily available. Why add Internet DNS resolution delay when you don't have to?
