System Logs in the GUI seem to have stopped.

          1.2.1-TESTING-SNAPSHOT
built on Thu Jul 10 00:10:45 EDT 2008

This has happened to me before and they began to work after a reboot.  I will pay attention to what Im doing to possibly cause this.

I dont get " syslogd: kernel boot file is /boot/kernel/kernel " after clearing logs when this happens…

Ive put my system back in place heading up my network against the modem.  Still seems that I need to have dns servers listed on the General Setup page and that my ISP's DHCP assigned servers are not automatically used.  Not a problem here but seems different from the 1.2R.  I can test more but was wondering if anyone else was seeing this, or if its expected behavior?

I cant blank out the "dns Server" lines on the general setup page and reproduce this.
I will have to reinstall from cd later to see if I can duplicate it… I believe it only happens after a fresh install.

              Scratch that…

Im not using "dns forwarder"  (while disabled it still seems to load on boot up though)

              Im using DHCP

I blanked the DNS servers lines on the General Setup page.

As clients began to renew they were not given a dns server.

Rebooted about an hour or a little more ago.

Generally I assign my clients a static address via DHCP.  These two that were affected were not set up for this yet.

Just noticed this again plus cpu just held at 100%

                Reboot and back to normal.

You mean if it goes to 100% again?

Mine normally runs at 1-3% normally…

It shows it's going through that part whether or not it's enabled, it doesn't start it if it isn't enabled.

This is different from 1.2 release?  I believe this is expected behavior, if you don't enable the DNS forwarder and don't configure your own DNS servers, clients don't get DNS servers assigned. If you want them to use your ISP's DNS servers I would recommend turning on the DNS forwarder. No reason not to, it's silly to not run a caching DNS server on your network when it's readily available. Why add Internet DNS resolution delay when you don't have to?

I am going from memory on the 1.2release Ive been running I admit. It worked so well I havent had to really touch anything.

                          This option

"Allow DNS server list to be overridden by DHCP/PPP on WAN
If this option is set, pfSense will use DNS servers assigned by a DHCP/PPP server on WAN for its own purposes (including the DNS forwarder). They will not be assigned to DHCP and PPTP VPN clients, though."

agrees with what you posted.  Been some long days for me so I missed it during my setups…  I dont remember having to enter DNS on the General Setup page before but may have... Sorry to stir things up about it but I figured if it was not working as intended you would want to know...

GUI system logs still seems to stop updating intermittently.  Reboot to get it to restart.

When this has happened I no longer see "syslogd: kernel boot file is /boot/kernel/kernel" on the system tab when I click "Clear Log".

Definitely, you're not "stirring up anything".

I'm pretty sure this is how it's always worked, and I did verify a few things related to this but not this exactly. Will check into it when I have a chance.

I have a 1.2-RC3 box, I wanna get that up to date. Can I just upgrade it from the web UI? In the past I've had bad experiences with upgrading, well can any one suggest anyway?

Is 1.2-RC3 config file usable with 1.2.1 snapshot?

Nope to what? Both? OK, I assume I need to download the ISO and start over. But, do you actually also mean nope that I cannot 'import' my old RC3 config to this one?

(oh, and if you don't mind saying, is 1.2.1 final gonna be released soon? I saw the known issues page and remaining is now none. I was actually planning on using the latest snapshot but I might wait for the very final to be released)

You should be able to upgrade 1.2-RC versions with no problem to 1.2.1. The config from older versions is fully compatible with newer versions.
