Multiport nic not showing all ports
-
is there a port limit in pf - i am using a 4 port realtek nic, and a dual port Intel pro100, and the motherboard has onboard pro100, but pfsense only shows me 2 realtek interfaces and 2 pro100 interfaces.
Is there a good 4 port 10/100 nic anyone might recommend? I have PCIe, PCIx, and standard 32 bit PCI slots.

No port limits, but FreeBSD can be a real pain once you get over 5-6 NICs. Any NIC that shares an IRQ with any other device can not appear or not function properly on some hardware. Disable any unnecessary devices on the system.
Might also want to try 1.2.1, that version of FreeBSD might be better in this regard.

Does the startup output show two pro100 NICs on the same PCI bus? If so, I suggest you check the onboard pro100 is NOT disabled in the BIOS.
If you're not sure how to check this post the output of the dmesg command in a reply and I'll take a look for you. That might also give some clues why only two of the four realtek NICs are showing.

I picked up this D-LINK DFE-580TX 4 Port PCI NIC CARD 10/100mb http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220228209935 that I was quite chuffed with for £40. He's got some more.
Linitx are flogging them for £136.00

Works a treat.

i think my intel nic had a hardware malfunction, cause it did the same thing on another platform, and I dug another up that did give me the full amount of nics. the realtek - i think that is just a bsd driver limitation, and realtek is a pos in general as far as *nix support goes.
