I have installed pfsense on two different PC's with different set of NIC's on both. I have used realtek and 3com ones and broadcom and via onboard. It happens no matter what.
I have ADSL with using a westell C90-610010-06 modem. The connection is PPPoE.
What happens is that the internet is slow and doesnt finish loading pages. It goes at like 1Kb/s instead of 3Mbit!
I connect the modem straight to the computer and I get the normal 3Mbit speed. I thought it was an MTU problem but I checked as I was informed in the IRC channel and everything is fine. Hardware wise everything is fine since I tried two completely different PCs and different set of NICs. I have not tried Intel but I dont think realteks and 3coms have problems honestly.
I have also tried setting the pppoe on the modem and then using dhcp on the wan interface and vise-versa and nothing.

PFsense is on default install, no packages no extensive configuration no nothing just a fresh install.

Any ideas what could be happening?

i had a similiar issue but it was squid.

have you checked that you don't have any collisions or errors on your interfaces by going to: "status" then "interfaces"?

yes i checked all of that and everything is fine. Well there is barely any traffic at all so its not like theres even a chance for the collisions!!

This sounds almost as if you have MTU problems.

pfSense lowers the MTU on PPPoE links automatically so it shouldnt be a problem.
But maybe you could try to lower the MTU manually to something very low like 1000 and try it again.
