my update was an old build and when i clicked on the autoupdate tab at 8:31 am on Aug 18 it displayed

A new version is now available

New version:    Mon Aug 18 00:00:47 EDT 2008
    Current version: 1.2.1-RC1
    Update source:  http://updates.pfSense.com/_updaters

for where it says new version should it not say the version of the latest build date and time and not todays date and some random time?

      Why a random time?
Isnt that the time on which the latest snapshot has been built?

This is normal for snapshots as the /etc/version is different from what we check.
