Why does the Transp. Proxy asks for password?
-
I configured pfSense, and added SQUID and SquidGuard. I've configured SQUID as a Transparent Proxy, and not yet activated SquidGuard.
However, since this morning SQUID started to acting up. All attempts to access external sites will pop up a "username/password" box. This shouldn't happen while SQUID is Transparent Proxy, right?
Furthermore, entering username "admin" and its password, instead of delivering me the site to be accessed, I ended up accessing pfSense's WebConfigurator.
Can someone tell me what's going on and how to fix it?
For the time being, I turned off SQUID, and all is well. But Internet access is really darn slow…
Oh, almost forgot:
I use pfSense 1.2.1-RC1-20080825, upgraded to 1.2.1-RC1-20080909, and upgraded again to 1.2.1-RC1-20080910
The SQUID package is 2.6.21_05
The SquidGuard package is Beta1.3I've just uninstalled the SquidGuard package, and still the same perplexing behavior.

Just to add a (perhaps non-related) incident, my pfSense now keep losing connection to the LAN (i.e., pings to pfSense goes RTO), and WebConfigurator can't be accessed.
Rebooting (via the console) will restore functionality… but it seems to lose connection again every approx. 30 minutes (not sure yet about this).

Well FYI, I have searched the forum and found no thread pertaining to my problem. I may have been using the wrong search terms, though, bit I have searched.
And I've tried your suggestion – no joy. That is, now pfSense no longer asks for a password, but all accesses to websites simply fail.

Have you restarted after changing the webgui?
I have had it happen (very rarely) that after changing the webgui to https the old web-server instance was still "kind of" running but didnt ask for a password and only presented an empty page.
–> Restarting helped. -
