1u server with 6 or 5 nics?

Hi all,
I'm looking for a server with 5 or 6 1000 nic's. Cause i like to use internal filtering too.
Right now i have a desktop tower for this.Someone knows where i can buy such a rack server?

Maby not what you looking for but why just dont run with 2-3 interfaces and use vlans?
you will need a vlan capable switch of course.just in case you missed that functionality ;)

nic1 vlan 1: edu
nic2 vlan 2: Resources (servers)
nic3 vlan 3: printers
nic4 : internet
nic5: internet (failover)i want to filter ports between the vlans thats why i need 5 nic's.

There have been threads here on there being a limit of the number of NICs supported by FreeBSD (the underlying OS). However, any decent 1U server is likely to have at least a couple of onboard ports and a couple of expansion slots. That should provide more than enough connectivity (you can get quad port cards - just search the forum before buying).

you can upgrade the CPU up to a quad core. Just add the Intel Pro quad Gig network card and you should be good to go

We have a 1u installation with 8 NICs that has been rock solid. In fact, they lost their cooling a few weeks back and the server room was well over 100 degrees. Every server was overheated and throwing errors on the front panel, but the pfsense box was still humming along ;D

Hardware sizing depends on throughput, not users.

Allright i'm thinking about buying a dell 1950 because or main supplier is Dell.
Anyone has experience with this server type? -
It certainly works with FreeBSD 7, which 1.2.1 and later are based upon. I'm not sure if the onboard RAID is supported under FreeBSD 6.2 (which is what pfSense 1.2 uses).
