Why my 1.2 embedded keep rebooting?
-
Hi, everyone
I'm using 1.2 embedded as my firewall, the job is simple: provide NAT service.
but , after running like 3 or 4 days, it reboots automatic for no reason.
my platform is IWill G064 motherboard + P4 Xeon 2.8 +512M Ram+ 512M CF card.why? any suggestion is appreciated

Plus, I checked /var/log/system.log , but every entry is made after the reboot
-
This is almost always indicative of hardware failure.

to submicron ,
I don't think it's a hardware problem. I tryed m0n0, and it had run for about 10 days without a reboot.
I'm really confused :( -
Try running a hardware-test.
If it's the RAM: m0n0wall doesnt use as much ressources as pfSense.
It's quite possible that it runs well on m0n0wall but goes awry on pfSense just because m0n0wall never uses the faulty ressources. -
Try adding the line,
hint.acpi.0.disabled=1
To your /boot/loader.conf file and reboot your router. This will disable ACPI if the fault remains take the line out after a few days.
I think its cured my 14 to 15 day lockups under 1.2.1!

To cheesyboofs,
Thanks, now I'll switch back to PFSense and add the line.
It needs a couple of days to find out whether the problem is solved, wish me luck.

oops, the file can not be modified. vi returns a 'Read Only file system' message.
googling :( -
To GruensFroeschli ,
Thank you, I took the memory out of the machine, installed it to a server, ran Windows Memory Diagnostic, it seemed OK.
Is there a way to do a hardware-test under the shell of PFSense. Cause the machine needs a very strange KVM cable, I do not have one. so I can't use keyboard / monitor. That's also why I use the embedded version of PFSense. -
Oh! If you are running embedded you will first need to make you os read/write with the following command
# /etc/rc.conf_mount_rw # ...make changes... # /etc/rc.conf_mount_ro
