1.2.1-RC2 is Great! No surprizes…

After a 4-month continuous run with 1.2-RELEASE, I decided to upgrade to 1.2.1-RC2 as of last night.  It's great!  No failures or bugs that I can see.  Boot is quick, wireless comes right up and is rock-solid.  I run a Mac and three Airport Expresses through which I stream iTunes.  Flawless, as it was in RELEASE.  I also associate my iPhone 3G and that works OK although the iPhone is not at its happiest with advanced encryption.  I mean it joins the WLAN just fine and I can surf, etc…with it, but gets a little balky with WPA2+PSK/AES.  It's fine with WPA+PSK/TKIP.  So this is an iPhone limitation, that's all.

My set up:

• Soekris net5501-70, with custom cutouts for RP-TNC antenna conectors;
• Kingston Memory 1G CF card;
• EngeniusTech EMP-8602 400mw a/b/g (Atheros 5006 chipset) miniPCI card;
• twin 7dbi antennas, pig-tails, etc...;
• pfSense 1.2.1-RC2 embedded;
• Comcast HSI.

Thanks everyone for an awesome firewall.  This is a more stable and higher-performing product than anything that comes off of the shelf.  I really enjoy it and it is truly set-and-forget.

Apple recently released version 2.2 of the firmware for their iPhone.  This firmware is supposed to fix some bugs related to connecting to encrypted access points.  I'd be interested to know if upgrading your iPhone has any impact on your WPA2 issues.

I did find one problem.

I am new to PFSense. I have been running Untangle for about a year, and decided to try something else.
I installed 1.2.1-RC2. If you go to System -> Firmware -> Auto Update, it will download and install 1.2-RELEASE, which as I understand it is the previous version.

I am using v2.2 on the iPhone.  Some things like safari work great w/WPA2.  Other things like certain Apps balk a little.  It definitely works, just not as smoothly as with WPA.

That's the expected behavior (though expected behavior that needs to be changed).
