ICMP issue - if the load balancer is pinging the same thing as the RRD quality graphs (which is the norm, as both typically use WAN gateway IPs), the load balancer will flap WAN connections.

What exactly is meant by 'flip WAN connections'?

        flap not flip.

So does this mean that my internet access would be cut off, or just that the rrd graphs would by ugly?  And would turning off the RRD graphs fix the problem?  (Or at least make it moot)

Yes it means that you'd loose your WAN for the time it's marked as offline, even if it's in reality online.

I'm not sure if disabling the RRD graphs would fix the problem, but if you say they cause it, then probably yes.

this is specific to the 1.2 load balancing with slbd. If you are not using load balancer pools it will perfectly fine and you will not see any flapping.

The RRD graphs have nothing to do with this.
