Hi everyone. I've searched on google and on pfsense forums for my problem but, I haven't found any solutions.
I've been using pfSense trouble-free for almost a year now. I was using 1.2 then decided to upgrade to 1.2.1-rc2.
The upgrade wouldn't install so, I backed up my configuration files and decided to install 1.2.1-rc2 from a cd.
All hardware gets recognized, all eth nics get assigned but, when I go to my regular pc pfsense does not give it an ip-address.
WAN works fine. It gets an ip from my service provider. I have Ubuntu 8.10 on my pc. I also install XP on my pc to see if it was
a problem with Ubuntu but, I got the same results. I have also tried switching around all kinds of eth nics and eth cablesto see if
it's a hardware problem but, no luck. When I connect my pc (with either WinXP or Ubuntu) directly to the Comcast modem I do get
an ip immediately. I don't know what else to try. I hope someone can point me in the right direction. Thank you.

I've got pfsense to hand out ip-addresses to my LAN but, not the way I wanted. I added a network hub and now I can an ip-address. I guess it's OK for now but, I always try to eliminate as much equipment from my network as possible. I would still like to connect my pc directly to my pfsense firewall. Something that may be of interest: I have a usb wireless and even that won't get an ip-address assigned unless the network hub is attached! Like I said, the less items I have to connect to the wall outlet the better I like it. So, if anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate it.

To connect a host to another ethernet Nic you need to use a crossover network cable. Or a switch.
