-
Hi ,
I just wondering if one of you guys already install pfsense on IT-100 thin box…it is really thin...and I've been waiting this box delivered to my house.
Here's the link and specs for the box :

Nope, never heard of them. Looks like an interesting unit. Tell us how it goes!

I've just bought one of these and tried it with pfsense - everything seems fine, including running the wireless (an actiontec 802.11b card) in AP mode. All I need to do now is create a copy of the 1.0 RELEASE Embedded image as 512Mb, as that's what I've replaced the existing 32Mb flash card with (and I don't seem to be able find a copy on the internet, the latest 512Mb image I've found is RC2).
I tried to create an install from CD using VMWare, and mounting the CF card as the VM disk. After installing, I edited the fstab to point to ad0s1a instead of da0s1a, which then worked when booting in the IT-100. The only problem is that after changing /etc/platform to wrap to make the filesystem read-only, the OS complains that it can't write to the filesystem after reboot (so obviously something isn't picking up on the fact that it shouldn't be writing to the CF card). A way around this would be to install to the 20Gb laptop HDD inside the box, but I prefer the idea of booting from CF!
RL0 is the WAN interface and RL1 is the LAN interface, if that helps. I'll be trying to get it all working properly this evening, so drop me an email if you're interested in how it goes.

Check here for 512M images:

Ah bugger, the image I used successfully before was from http://shopping.hacom.net/catalog/pub/pfsense/ and I used the ad0 512Mb image. I guess the wrap image is setup to boot from another physical disk or somesuch. Well, I guess for now I'll just have to use the RC2 version.

Hmmm, the Hacom units no longer require Bao's custom image. Once we moved to using geom label mount points my Hacom started working great with the default embedded image. Did you give the 512M CF image a try?

Well, I did some testing and my other laptop running linux seems to pick up an address from its wireless connection. I then plugged the laptop's card into my main laptop, currently running Windoze XP. Sure enough, it picked up an IP without a problem. It's obviously a problem with the windows driver for my wireless card. Now, to figure out how to
a) successfully update the embedded image (I'm getting fopen/fclose errors on startup on boot after an update, which I'm guessing is PHP trying to write to the filesystem after it's been mounted Read Only - and I can't figure out how to re-mount the filesystem as write so that I can change /etc/platform from embedded to pfSense, reboot to allow the changes to be made and then change back to embedded), or
b) Find out why after placing my CD install to CF card of 1.01 in embedded mode I'm getting lots of "disk is dirty" messages, again I'm guessing these are due to the fact that the filesystem is mounted Read Only.
And the 512Mb CF image linked to above gets stuck pretty early in the boot process.
