Dual WAN - Loose DNS when WAN 1 goes down.
-
Hi Just a quick niggle.
Running 1.2.2 with WAN (master) WAN2 (via a 3com bridged backup link).
All servers and PC's set to use router as primary DNS server and ISP DNS as secondary DNS sever - this is assigned via router DHCP server.
When modem 1 goes down (WAN) all PC's loose DNS resolution as the router DNS entries (system:general setup) only seem to apply to the WAN interface.
What is the correct way to resolve this? Is it to set up a rule so force the ISP DNS requests from the PC's (secondary DNS sever) out of WAN2?
however this doesn't help the router resolve when WAN goes down.

You should only need pfSense as you dns server.
As I use OpenDNS I have made a static route for each IP, 1 going out of wan gateway and 1 for the wan2 gateway.
Diagnostics -> Traceroute can be used to test with. -
I have managed to break the IP stack on a few windows boxes in the past by incorrectly adding a static route and loosing connection.
Could you give me an example i.e. interface : destination : gateway
