Well that was a pita to setup, although turns out to be my PC being a problem

Was going to use the full one but decided against it when the install to the CF card hung half way through due to a scratched cd (really should have taken better care of the pfsense cd)

Decided to use embedded in the end had lots of trouble getting it to write to the CF card, turns out dipite what it says phydiskwrite doesn't always play nice with vista (Yes i was running it elevated), tried again on my XP based EEE and it wrote first time  ::)

Config restored mostly ok apart from on reboot it tried to install TinyDNS and failed becuase it was the embedded platform  :D
Was the only reason really i wanted the full version.

Only thing is with The Embedded version running the filesystem as read-only does that mean RRDgraphs get lost when the system is rebooted or are those still perodically saved to the CF.

Last point i used a 2GB cf but i think the embedded image i loaded was only ~128mb seems a bit wastefull but nevermind.

Still I learned a few things, it handles the load-balancing nicely and No more noisy PC in the living room  8)

RRD data is stored permanently in the shutdown scripts. If you want to be prepared for losing power, you can set up a cron job to duplicate the action once a day or something like that. The embedded image is 128MB, but it can be resized - you probably won't ever use the 128MB anyway though.

        Thanks for that.  ;D

Yes I might have to look into that :)
