Automatic Wake On LAN
-
Hi Guys,
I would like to know if pfSense's WOL is capable of automatically turning on computers that for some reason or another went off. I have a mail and file server that goes off most of the time and I don't have pfSense access at home to turn on the aforementioned machines.
TIA.

WoL is WoL, the implementation doesn't matter if the receiver is really using WoL.
All you should need to do is check that the computer in question is capable of WoL and then test it.

@ Cry Havok - I read this as Jan would like pfSense to monitor a server (ping) and if it goes down fire a Magic packet at it.
@ Jan - obviously pfSense doesn't support this atm or you would have found it already and I would be more concerned about why the servers are going down in the first place …

That is exactly what I'm hoping for i.e. pfSense to automatically fire up those machines, anyways thanks for the heads up.
The reason I'm asking is because it would be very costly for me to replace those aforementioned servers ( clones so unreliable :'( ) that is why I'm hoping WOL can do that.

The answer then is - not with the base install. You'll need to add some FreeBSD packages and your own scripts to do this.
