Realtek 8111b/8111c

is there any way to get pfsense to work with realtek 8111b or 8111c gigabit nics? my motherboard has 2 on it and it would be a bummer to not be able to use them.
can i load in drivers somehow? or compile a custom kernel?

They should work with the re driver in FreeBSD 7.1. Probably, you should either wait for the next stable release of pfSense 1.2.3 or try out pfSense 2.0.

thanks, i read 2.0 is still using 7.0 kernel at the moment….i ordered a 30 dollar dual gigabit card that uses the broadcom bcm57xx chips so it SHOULD work with the bge driver in pfsense (my current box is using that very driver with dual onboard gigait nics...it's an old hp proliant server)

i'm hoping it will work....if so then i'll be able to use this motherboard i have now and be doubly happy when pfsense does support my onboard nics....

also...does anyone know if theres a driver for realtek rtl8187l the onboard wifi module uses this chip and it would be awesome if i could get it working aswell

ok, i downloaded 1.2.3 because i read it uses the 7.1 kernel and when i installed it lo and behold what do i see

WOOO it works…so i install it and set everything up.....take it up and put it in my network....turn on the pc....

now both re0 and re1 are gone
i reboot several times and it's so weird.. most of the time they don't show up..or only re1 or re0 will show up
i've found that booting without acpi seems to help some....if anyone has any idea what's going on let me know

otherwise, i'm super happy with this build

Disable "PNP Operating System" (or similar) in your BIOS and see if that helps.

yes. i appologize, i posted this thread when i was still trying to use pfsense 1.2-stable….the driver in that version didn't work at all
when i downloaded 1.2.3 i decided to make my post in that forum instead, seeing as it seemed to be an issue with that version (being based on freebsd 7.1)
