pfSense DHCP server isn't activated by default - it needs to be configured.

Your configuration is broken. Your laptop needs to have an IP address on the same IP subnet as the pfSense LAN interface. Its not clear why you chose the LAN address you did. I'd be inclined to use (say) 192.168.3.x/24 for LAN and enable DHCP server on pfSense so all the necessary configuration information gets sent to the laptop in response to its DHCP request.

is there a way i can enable DHCP from the shell ?
my lan interface had ip 192.168.1.1
my laptop had a fixed ip 192.168.1.2so the both of them are in the same subnet i presume.

I presume your laptop is still connected to the switch which is still connected to the pfSense LAN port. (Note the LAN port and WAN port are not interchangeable. I'm not certain, but I suspect the default is to NOT allow access to the web GUI from the WAN port. Therefore you can just swap the pfSense connections to attempt to get a different address on the LAN port.)
Does the laptop LAN state LED suggest a working connection to the switch? Does the LED associated with the switch port connected to the laptop show "link up"? Same questions for the switch to pfSense connection.
