Php eating my memory
-
I have upgraded from 1.2.2 to 1.2.3-RC1 and I been having issues with the process php it seems to be eating my system memory and making my system swap like crazy… Here are my specs...
1.2.3-RC1
built on Wed Apr 22 15:45:47 EDT 2009
FreeBSD 7.1-RELEASE-p5 i386
Alix Board with 500MHz and 256 RAM.It wasent doing this on 1.2.2
Any ideas?
Thanks!

I try twice to upgrade my build to the latest snap shoot and both times it ended up bricking my device. By the way I am not running embedded.

Well now I updated to….
1.2.3-RC2
built on Thu Jul 23 17:25:52 EDT 2009
FreeBSD 7.2-RELEASE-p2 i386And the issue still there and is making my firewall almost unusable...
And since I upgraded my CPU fluctuates from 15% usage and 39% usage... in 1.2.2 This is not the case... Any ideas please????
TIA! -
What packages do you have installed?
-
All I have installed is blinkled, bandwithd, dashboard, and snort.
bandwithd only runs on a schedule from 5:00PM to 12:00AM and so does snort.
Now I can turn off all of those service off and still the cpu stays between 15% to 39%….
I did came up with an idea this morning... I went and ran top and monitor the CPU usage and compare it with the system status graph in the dash board... they where pretty much in sync.... BUT as soon as I closed the browser my CPU usage went to 99% idle! I think the issue I am having is the dashboard??? ??? And when I did the test I was running all of my services at the same time. Is the dashboard package cpu intensive in 1.2.3? I did not have this problem in 1.2.2
I could go back to 1.2.2 but my wireless wont work in 1.2.2. I am trying to stay in 1.2.3 since it has the wireless fix.
Also my memory keeps increasing with time until it starts swapping...Thank You for your help!

I see the CPU Usage spikes like you Serialdie only on the Dashboard, its been like this for quite some time. Running top thru console or ssh shows CPU usage as majorily idle. What I dont see is your memory issue, usually stays at 26-33%. Maybe your use of Snort is causing your memory to swap out as I dont use Snort on such a low resource device.

Mhhhh I know what you are saying but I dont have this issue in 1.2.2 is only in 1.2.3-RCx

Just to add my 2 cents here.
I am using snort , dashboard , blinkled and havp and too am seeing pretty high memory usage (65% with peaks at 80%).
Swap is being used at 25% at times.
I suppose this is normal since Snort is probably eating most of that.
I can say that the memory usage has gone up since I upgraded Snort to 1.4 -
You're running all those packages on an embedded box with only 256M of RAM and you wonder why your memory is being used up? This isn't a 1.2.3 problem, this is a layer 8 problem.

Thanks for pointing the "user problem" submicron. I am not running many packages at all. The only intensive package I run is snort. Which turns out to have an issue. I have addressed it.
Thank you. -
You have 4 packages including one of the most resource intensive ones installed on an embedded box with barely the required memory for pfSense itself. Enough said.
