Squid 2.7.x
-
Is there any chance the Squid 2 package will be updated from 2.6.x to 2.7.x?
Squid 2.7 is faster, uses less RAM, and has some extremely useful features such as StoreUrlRewrite. A lot of optimization work went in to the 2.7 branch and the Squid folks that you should absolutely make the change. Is there any reason this hasn't happened?

Given that people have to give up their free time, possibly because nobody has raised a bounty ;)
Alternatively, if you can create your own package…

It is mostly curious because the Squid 2 package with 2.6.x versions is updated. The configuration file changes between the two are relatively minor, so staying with 2.6.x is odd.
-
As I said, people have to give up their free time to do this. While it might be "minor", somebody has to want to do it - money is always a motivator.
-
Like $10 as a motivator, or $1000 as a motivator?
-
Take a look at the bounty forum, see what others are offering, see what you want/can afford to offer.
ISTR that $50 to $100 is a common starting point, but the idea is that others can chip in to increase your offer to a larger overall total, thereby increasing the incentive for somebody to pick it up.

I'll jump on board with some money if you start a bounty - others may too…

Without web-gui its pretty easy.
-
Will you provide some instructions for doing it without the GUI?

There is now a $250 bounty offered by me if any of you(s) are interested in developing or contributing additional funds. I need a working GUI though…
