      Is it possible to disable the PC speaker, so that pfSense doesn't sound the beeps during startup and shutdown?

      I've tried appending the following line to /etc/sysctl.conf, but this doesn't have any affect on the startup/shutdown beeps.

      hw.syscons.bell=0

      pfSense is running on an eBox 4863 - I don't think it's possible to physically detach the PC speaker, and there didn't appear to be any related settings in the BIOS.

      Searching these forums for "PC speaker" only returns posts listing system logs (" <pc speaker="">port 0x61 on…"), and "bell" didn't return anything related to the above sysctl.conf line, that I could see.

      Any help is appreciated. Thanks.</pc>

        The beep script is located in /usr/local/bin/beep.sh. Just comment out the pertinent start and stop ifs.
