No it is not
If i have time i may try pfsense out again today and see it helps running for a longer period of time .because i never had problems before .
The one problem could it be the intel 10/100 pro card i have read that is a problem in unix . -
how are you validating these speeds you speak of? if your not already, you should install iperf on your pfsense box then run iperf from a machine on your LAN. that will at least test the speed between your LAN network card and your workstation.

That isn't always accurate. I have seen some pretty wild results with iperf running on a pfSense box, especially one with limited CPU. It's better to test with an iperf box on the WAN side and on the LAN side, to test the actual throughput.

i agree with you but based on the specs he provided i would think that the box should not have much of a problem xfering 90+ Mbits/s granted he isnt using a lot of resources on the box. Also, while an iperf box on the wan and lan side of the firewall is a good way to test throughput it may not help determine if the sloweness is the cause of a hardware issue because he's then limited by any upstream bottlenecks too and it may be difficult to differentiate the two.
So i guess i would recommend both or add a third interface to your box and test across those as youll be able to keep all the traffic internal.

Or unplug from your real WAN and plug into another test box there. :)

Oh boy, quite a confusing thread. So cdx, are you saying you have a 90 Mbits/s connection and before installing pfsense you were able to get 70Mbits/s out of that? And now you only get 5? Or have you been able to fix that by now? I would really like to know why this problem occurs.

correct me if i am wrong but any docsis 2.0 modem will max out @ around 40MB (30Rated) before locking up(even if it doesnt you will get stability problems). no way cox/comcast does speedboost to 90M unless you have a 3.0 modem hacked. 3.0 is rated to 100M.
The only time i have seen the 50+ speed is on a hacked or cox tech modem. But none of this is real world, cox has recently started to use their powerboost to inflate numbers on speedtest sites. so you 90 is not really 90 is highly inflated just for that app. right now cox and speakeasy.com give me 12M but qwest and cox business both give me 7M. theres a reason tech support wants you to go to speakeasy.com. the reason cox business is more accurate is because business customers are guaranteed to get the speed they pay for.
I have cox get 32M on my 2.0 modem sometimes but pay for 9M, on average its about 18Mheres cox's business test, do the 2 or 3rd option for high speed users.

The Speedboost he's referring to is a feature in DD-WRT. However, there's no way it'll increase his internet connection speed. It's the equivalent of Turbo-G/ Speedboost/ Superspeed/ G-Plus found in Wireless-G routers to exceed the normal 54Mbps on Wireless-G connections.
