Squid/SquidGuard frequent failure
-
Hello
This is happening a LOT, I need to know the problem.
It is an issue where when entering ANY website, I get the squid error page and a TCP_MISS/504 e.g.:
1253405951.302 18 192.168.1.55 TCP_MISS/504 3967 GET http://www.google.com.lb/search? - DIRECT/127.0.0.1 text/htmlAnd this is part of the cache.log if it helps, http://pastebin.com/m14b6de06
Another thing, when I monitor access.log (tail -f) and try to access a website, I notice a delay e.g. the browser shows the browsing animation of the tab icon and nothing yet (the website address) is entered in access.log so it's taking time to load the page in the browser, as if the request isn't getting to squid fast enough. What could be the issue ?
Regards

Are you using HAVP as well? Cuz i have the similar problem where browsing will take forever to load. I fixed the problem by setting it up as shown in the link –> http://doc.pfsense.org/index.php/HAVP_Package_for_HTTP_Anti-Virus_Scanning

I have this config too, but squid and Proxyfilter die often.
-
No, I don't use HAVP
I forgot to mention that to fix this issue, the squidGuard service must be restarted. But I do want to know the cause since this is happening very often.

I'm using the squid-cacheboy combination Squid Cache (Version LUSCA_HEAD):Version LUSCA_HEAD for i386-portbld-freebsd7.2… updated from Squid 2.7.7.
Havp is installed too on pfsense 1.2.3 RC3, Tue Nov 3 04:55:58 UTC 2009.
Would be nice to know if Squidguard or squid causes the problem. Normally pressing "Apply" starts squidguard and squid again till the next crash of the combination. Bit strange, all that.Are you using the unpatched squid, nore? I think, if so, squidguard can be the problem.
I solved the problem by adding a cron-job executing every hour "/usr/bin/nice -n20 /usr/local/sbin/squid -D"

I'm not sure what you mean by unpatched. I'm using right now squid 2.7.8 and squidGuard 1.3-2 on pfsense 1.2.3-RC1 and I'm still facing this issue.
And yes, squidGuard is the problem, as I said before, since by restarting its service, everything becomes fine.Any help is appreciated
Thanks

I'm working with the lusca-head-patched package from chudy.

If that's working fine and not giving you any trouble, please give me its link.

sorry, its having the same problem, but adding the following entry in your config.xml should resolve the problem:
```
<minute></minute>
<hour>/2</hour>
<mday></mday>
<month></month>
<wday>*</wday>
<who>root</who>
<command></command>/usr/bin/nice -n20 /usr/local/sbin/squid -DAlternativeley install the cron-package and add the entry there. Look afterwards if the new cron-entry is added to your config.xml, i had no luck with the cron-package on pf 1.2.3 and added it manually. Hope that helps.
