      Hi,

I just bought a Netgate pfSense appliance, and was running through the initial setup wizard via the web interface, no problem. However, one of the last questions it asked me for was the LAN Ip and subnet mask.
I chose 10.10.10.254 for my LAN IP, and 32 for subnet mask. I don't know why I changed it from the default or 24, but apparently I shouldn't have. After it 'applied' the changes and rebooted, I can't access pfSense anymore. :(

My machines on my LAN are configured like so:

      IP - 10.10.10.1,2,3,4,etc.
      Subnet - 255.255.255.0
      Gateway - 10.10.10.x

Because there is no 'console' to this appliance (aside from a serial port which I'm afraid of), is there a way I can change the network config of one of my PCs to access the pfSense appliance again to change the subnet mask to 24 (this is what I want, right?)?

I don't see how - maybe reset it to factory defaults (or do the serial cable thingie.)

Yeah, you've set the LAN subnet to a single address. Either get a null modem cable and reset the LAN address from the menu or pull the CF card and re-flash it.

Don't be afraid of the serial port, it's quite handy.

All it takes is a null modem cable and a terminal program like putty. Connect up and you'll get a console menu and one of the options is to reset the LAN IP address.

Ok guys. I got it - I trekked down to Fry's, got a null modem cable, hooked it up, loaded up PuTTY and voila! I got the menu and changed the LAN IP quite surprisingly easy.

                Thanks everyone for the help!

                  Great news :)

That serial cable will come in handy again soon, I'm sure.
