Advice needed: which package should I use to monitor user activity on an Alix
-
Hello,
My pfsense 1.2.3 RC2 is on an Alix box with a memory card.
I need to install a user activity monitoring package to see why today's activity is 4 times usual activity.
Which package would you recommend.
My concern: I have read things about some packages burning memory cards. Thanks

The only package you might have luck with at the moment on NanoBSD is probably the Rate package.
Or you could go with what is already installed, and use pftop from a console window. Pick it from the menu or type "pftop" at a shell prompt. Press a key from 0 through 8 to change the view. I believe view 7 sorts by speed, or perhaps the default (0).
Neither of those will log by IP, only show things live as they happen. The problem with the other bandwidth logging utilities is that they all want to write to databases constantly to save data, which isn't allowed on CF-based installs like NanoBSD unless it is to a memory disk, which is quite limited in size.
