Fast, constant beeping on install due to…?
-
Installing on a Dell Optiplex GX520. It only has USB ports. The install gets to the point where it wants to determine your console (video, keyboard layout, etc) and just sits there beeping really fast. I can't do anything. Tried a different keyboard, but nothing. I've installed pfSense probably 3 or 4 times now, never had this problem.

What version(s) of pfSense? Embedded or full?
Does your BIOS have USB keyboards enabled?
What is output before the beeping starts?

I'm using pfSense-1.2.3-RELEASE-LiveCD-Installer.iso.gz to install.
The keyboard works fine (I can press i to install), it's just until I get to the console setup that it freezes. A couple times, it was if someone was holding down the up or down button and it was just scrolling through the options really fast.
The only output is changed state to down for the three NICs I have.

k…. it magically started working........ what.....the.....crap.

@jjj:
A couple times, it was if someone was holding down the up or down button and it was just scrolling through the options really fast.
Then the beeping might have been due to overflow of the keyboard input buffer.
I have a system that intermittently seems to go into keyboard "permanent repeat" mode as if a keyboard key was held down. My impression (over 4 or 5 years) is that it happens far less frequently with USB keyboard than PS/2 keyboard, its most likely to happen at startup (though it occasionally happens when the system has been running for an extended period) and it happens more frequently when the system has been powered off for a long period (more than a couple of weeks).
