How can I configure squid to use TWO hard drives??
-
I know in the forums there's lots of threads that talk about using a separate hard drive for squid, but what if I had two hard drives I want to use? Can squid use them simultaneously? How is this done? I've got two IDE hard drives, one 40GB and one 60GB. We have 5 users on our network but since I do lots of web development stuff and my brother facebooks a lot, and we watch lots of youtubes, we tend to need a lot. Although we are limited to 500MB/day (satellite internet) and I tend to get up at 5:00 so I can do my downloads then and not go over the FAP limit.
So, I'm thinking that a 60GB drive might not be good enough because it will probably stay at about 75-90% full, and that that might make it slower. And I've read that its faster to use two drives and configure squid to use them. So, how is this done?

There is no support in the GUI for doing such a thing, but if you can manage to fdisk and newfs the drive by hand (or on another freebsd box via sysinstall) you can probably add it to /etc/fstab and have it mounted by the system. There are some docs in the FreeBSD handbook which explain this process.
Eventually it might be nice for someone to write up a "storage" package of some sort to handle this kind of task, but it would be a fair amount of work.

What about the use of geom_stripe? Its inside freebsd and the setup is quiet simple? Would this be an option????
