Is automatic update available on 1.2.3 Embedded?
-
Hello,
After more than two years on the WRAP1E board (and pfSense of course) I decided to move to Alix 2D13 because of 1.2.3 release that brings upgrade capability to the embedded platform (and packages too). In the "Definitive Guide to pfSense" it is indicated that there is an Automatic Update page under System/Firmware that can be set to Auto. Unfortunately I don't see such item in my Firmware page, only one tab for manual ugprade.
Is this a normal behavior?
Thanks

That is correct, automatic update is not available on NanoBSD.
There were issues properly determining the correct size images in an automatic fashion which led to that feature being disabled on 1.2.3. It will likely be revisited in the next release, but doing a manual firmware update still works.
If you do not want to download the image to a workstation first, you can do an upgrade by URL from the console. Connect with serial or SSH, choose option 13, and then type in or paste the full URL to the upgrade image you want to use.

Sounds fine. I can deal with manual updates. I don't recall if announcements of new release show up in pfSense dashboard.
If not, is there a way to receive automatic notification of new pfSense releases (email, forum thread, RSS feed…) ?Thanks

They are usually announced in various places, the two main ones are:
The pfSense blog (you could use the RSS feed):
http://blog.pfsense.org/Mailing lists (including an announce list):
