DHCP server performance problem
-
hi
A new record is added or a change to the DHCP server when page loading is very slow (more than 1 minute).
also the same problem in the arp tables list.
What would you recommend me to do except reduce dhcpd.leases file- dhcpd.leases file size 1.4 MB.
- There are computers on the network at around 1500.
- Server: Dual Xeon 2.4Ghz, RAM: 4GB
thanks

I'm not sure I am understanding your problem. Page loading (browsing?) should not be related to DHCP at all. If that is slow, it is something else.

I do not mention due to slow web browsing. :)
pfSense web GUI "DHCP SERVER" page meant.

Hmmm, if there really are that many computers, I'm not sure what to suggest.

When that page loads, it does some necessary pruning of the DHCP leases to ensure that there are no overlapping leases, which can happen when saving static DHCP entries which still have a dynamic lease in the file.
I thought that code only ran when you actually submitted an action to the page though, not just when it was loaded.
Even so, I didn't think it took that long to run even on a large leases file.

I'd be more interested in the DHCP setup you have in place. You don't have just one scope serving out all 1500 addresses do you? Everything I've always heard (and what Cisco teaches) is to only have 255 clients per scope(VLAN). It helps with ARP requests on switches and I think it could improve your pfSense DHCP page loading issue.
