PFSense + Old router + wireless?
-
Hey guys!
I was just browsing for different OSs that I could use on my old computer to personalize my home network more. My main goal is to use my old PC as a router to control the use of bandwidth on my home network so that people torrenting, downloading, watching movies wont affect other computer on a higher priority, eg people doing real work ;). The way I am planning to do this may differ from normal configurations so I thought I'd just ask first.
I have an old PC with 2 network adapters and an old router with wireless capabilities. Would it be possible to use the router as a "hub" for more connections since my PC only has 2 network adapters (One for the WAN the other for LAN), and would it be possible to use the wireless interface from the router for wireless connections aswell.
Really just want to know if I can make a good network without having to buy anything else than what I have
Hope i provided enough information.
Thanks!

Yes

Yes, provided the router supports that. (Perhaps the router's wireless support is only for a point to point link, perhaps the wireless support is not for WiFi etc etc)

Enough to say that "in principle" it can be done.
