Help squid/squidGuard on embedded device

I want to use squid and squidGuard on my embedded alix device.
squidGuard's db is on /var/db which is memfs and once my blacklist is generated, the size is up to 200mo :s
My alix board only have 256mb of ram …
Is there a way to use a compressed filesystem on ram such as squashfs on linux (may be geom_uzip on freebsd?) to stock database?
Any solution are welcome :)

I'm wondering too, as today I have gotten my Alix board for home use…
I want to use squid/squidguard to protect my children against 18+ content (my children are less than 10 years old).I'm wondering, if it would be possible to store it's data to an external drive maybe ?? Since the Alix has two USB ports, this might be a good alternative ?

If you want to use Squid, and you just got the ALIX board, return it. Use a PC instead.

I understand - but then I end up using my bigger and noisy box… which I wanted to be removed (well, it's not really moving out, it'll become the FreeNAS box afterwards).
Anyway, if it isn't recommended - then it'll be without.I really like the ALix, quite & small...

Well, nobody said you had to use a big and loud PC. ;)

Squid on embedded is not meant for caching, it's meant for access control. Set the cache size to 0 (or very low) and you'll be good.
If you want to use an external device, you can, but it's not (yet?) supported in the GUI and you'd have to take steps to ensure the settings carried over after a firmware update.
