well seem that my post is a full success  :'(

I had just notice that the IP260 has a CF card and a HD, the CF stores the IPSO OS and the HD is used only for store logs, so what I will try it to dd the CF and the HD as backup, in case nothing works.

I wil install pfsense in the CF and i will try to find out is via the shell if I can mount the HD as filesystem, if so, it can be sue to store he logs and other pfsense files

but wich directories do I need to consider to migrate to the HD?

is anyone can provide me some advise

        Thanks

oh well, I'm still working on this, I'm really disappointed of this community no one wants to share or provide tips, I'm very close to make it work, but if I have it working, I doubt I will share this with anyone

          sad  >:(

The activity in the pfSense forums I read suggests to me there are some people in the pfSense community (certainly more than "no one") willing to share and provide tips. I can understand you feeling disappointed there doesn't seem to be any interest in your particular challenge. There could be many reasons for lack of interest, including "I don't have an IP260", "I can't see that would be useful", "I don't know the answer", "I don't have time to find the answer" etc.

            @harryman01:

It can be quite time consuming to write up a good, accurate and concise explanation. If that is your reason for not sharing, fair enough. But if you have decided not to share because nobody shared with you then I think you have become part of the problem you seem to decry.

the nokia ip260 has a CF card that has a freebsd bootmanager on it, this card is typically like 64mbyte.

The laptop sized hard disk is for the OS, not just logs. you can try putting this into a PC, installing pfsense onto it and then putting it back into the IP260. perhaps remove the CF card and see if the bios just boots off of the hard disk.

The IP260 has a half decent CPU, 4x 100mbit nics and can take a gig of SDRAM. i have one running fanless with the case off (running IPSO+checkpoint). this would be a nice pfsense box. let me know if you get it working.

i do run pfsense on my nokia ip330. i just put the hard disk in a PC, installed pfsense and it's been working well for a few months now. I get surprising throughput through this old K6 CPU and just 256mb of ram.

I've tried the following without success (so far)
                1.removed the CF card.
                2. moved the HD to laptop and installed pfsense (choose embedded kernel)
                3. placed the HD back and tried to boot

                I get the following
                F… E... D... C... B... A... 9... 8... 7... 6... 5... 4... 3... 2... 1... 0...

                No valid boot devices found

Does it mean it can only boot from the CF?
Any suggestion would be greatly help

                Thanks,

                  Made some progress (or not)
I guess the ip260 must boot from the CF card (and not from the HD - I am not sure but I suspect it is jumpered some how like this)

copy the nanobsd to 1GB cf card and this is where I got….
with new version 1.2.3 did not boot at all
with older version 1.2.1/0 managed to boot and got to this point

My guess is the pfsense does not like the HW of this box.

If any of you got any suggestions I would be happy to hear

Any one got any further with the IP260 ?

                    My experiences so far :

I got monowall 1.236 working on it, it seems to get stuck on the bootloader, need to press CR on the console to get it to continue and boot into monowall. After this it works very well.

This is with a CF card in place of the HD and the native CF empty.

                    With pfsense 1.2.3 1GB version I get this :

                    F… E... D... C... B... A... 9... 8... 7... 6... 5... 4... 3... 2... 1... 0...

I have no experience with the ip260, but there are several ip530 threads here (what I run with 1.2.3) and a few other Nokia threads.  Maybe something there can help.  Good luck.
