PfSense 2.0 Traffic shaper HFSC/CBQ/PRIQ questions
-
Hey,
Trying out pfSense2 again, and I want to be able to set up the traffic shaper, but I'm stuck trying to get information right at the start of the wizard.I'm in a townhouse with family. We have a 768/128 DSL link. The modem is connected to a wireless router, and I have pfSense accessing the router through wireless (property owner wouldn't be happy if I drilled and pulled CAT5 around the place). So generally any information about my link speed I feed to the traffic shaper could be inaccurate if the guys on the other side are downloading/browsing (they generally don't do much other than play flash games). The router they have isn't able to run any of the custom firmwares I've looked at, and we're not in a position to replace the router.
I really can't figure out which traffic shaping scheduler to use. I'm doing searches and coming up with blanks as most describe HOW they work, not what situation(s) each scheduler is designed for. So I figure I'll ask here in hopes someone can help me figure out what is best.
What are the advantages of each scheduler? What are the disadvantages? What would work best for a (variable) asynchronous DSL connection? Which one will dump bit-torrent traffic the fastest so games and other traffic doesn't suffer?

Actually… the traffic shaper wizard fails to create rules correctly. So I guess I'll file a bug report, and have to manually create rules, which in 2.0 I have no freakin' clue how to do.
Any help on describing the strong and weak points for each scheduler would be nice though.
