TinyDNS setup help
-
I am currently running a Bind9 DNS server on my local network, but I would like to move DNS duties to my a new pfsense box that I am configuring. I have configured a pfsense box in a test environment with internet access. After installing TinyDNS on pfsense, DNS on pfsense stops working. I have the DNS servers populated in General and I have walked through the TinyDNS wizard, but the pfsense box cannot resolve any hostnames on my test LAN or internet URLs. If I uninstall the package, DNS functionality starts working again.
I have searched high and low for some setup guide or instructions, but I haven't found anything. At this point I am at a loss. I would like to use TinyDNS as it is more full featured than the standard DNS forwarder and should support zone transfers to my other DNS servers. Any help would be appreciated.

How did you install Tiny_DNS?

I installed it as a pfsense package, from the packages screen.

Does anyone have screenshots of how their TinyDNS is configured? Maybe I can work back from that and see what I am missing.

Probably what you want is for your pfSense host to be both an authoritative name server for your domain and a forwarding server (dnsmasq) for your network at the same time. BIND can do that, but tinydns can't and is designed that way on purpose. You can only have either forwarding or an authoritative service.

Ok I think I understand now. I am currently using my existing Bind server and having it handle my domain, and then forward to pfSense for internet requests.
