What Atom MB/CPU combo is guaranteed to work with pFsense?

I want it as 'green' as possible to replace my current Pentium IV power hog.

Thanks for the links guys, I'll check them out  ;)

Any thoughts of this plus a $5 riser card for a 2nd NIC?

Older Atom…. but a hell of a price.  Splurge for a dual Intel NIC if you can get a riser card for the PCI-E slot.  It should work great.

It's okay. Single Realtek nic-Everyone here strives to use Intel nics. Realteks works and have their place. The forum here has lots of pros and cons of using Realtek nics. IIRC there was just jabber about finding the correct riser. Maybe not for the model you chose but look at all the supermicro's at Newegg. You see what I'm talking about.

If you want to ditch the riser then look at this one. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816101262&cm_re=supermicro--16-101-262--Product

I like that one Boston, thanks.

Eventually I want to replace an ASA 5505 that is sitting in front of a couple web servers.

Until them I'm going to play with it at home and learn as much as I can.  It will replace a WRT54G running DD-WRT.

I want the box to do

                  • router/firewall
                  • IPS
                  • AV/malware

Once I'm comfortable with pfSense + Snort, I'll get a bigger box to handle a prod environment.
