if i go to the shell, i can see bridge0 in ifconfig -a output; if i go to "assign interfaces" and try to assign it as lan, it happily asks me to assign a "real" interface. given that the bridge is up, trying to then assign a real interface that is in actuality part of the bridge results in a huge mess.

      what's supposed to happen?

You can't create or assign bridges at the console if that's what you're attempting. Assign your physical interfaces at the console, then create and assign the bridge in the web interface.

it was already created (on a previous boot, in fact) via the web interface. indeed, if i dropped to a shell (8) and ran ifconfig -a it was there. going back into the menu and going to assign interfaces (1) would not let me assign it to LAN. just happily asked me again for an interface. this is one i'm going to have to retry on a vm, i got the router back up and don't want to break it again today.

gnhb: As far as I know, it does not allow assigning bridges at all on the console, regardless of whether they already exist.
