DHCP - out of inodes crash
-
Running pfsense on a VIA Epia 5000 500MHz mini-ITX with 512MB memory and a 20GB laptop hard drive.
At seemingly random intervals from a week or more to several times a day, pfsense crashes with a screenful of "out of inode errors" that appear to be related to DHCP. I have noticed that disk activity seems frequent. The disk has loads of space spare, so it does seem to be inode related rather than space. pfsense can be rebooted quite happily and runs normally for a random period from hours up to several weeks again before the same crash happens. Can anyone advise on what's causing this. I've searched for ages, but don't see this problem reported anywhere and it's getting very frustrating. I've also posted in the hardware area that pfsense is reporting less than 128MB memory and unsupported hardware erros, though apparently running normally. Is there any connection?
Thanks for any help,

What packages are you running?

That usually means that (a) your drive is full or (b) your drive is bad.
It looks DHCP related because DHCP is trying to write to the leases file when someone pulls an IP or renews, and when it writes, it fails.

Thanks to both respondees - sorry for my slow reply, just been on hols.
pfsense package manager shows no packages installed
Regarding disk state - the disk usage is shown as 1% (as I'd expect). The disk itself is a relatively new one and not displaying errors. I know a system can run out of inodes given a large number of small files and I suspected some kind of logging problem - I can hear regular disk activity (never heard anything when I ran Smoothwall - indeed Smoothwall continued to run happily for several weeks after a disk had failed!) - but I haven't found where I can check for logging activity.

You can check the inode usage from the shell with "df -i"
