Watchguard Firebox x500 BIOS
-
Hi everyone.
Found a Firebox x500 in the trash a while ago with busted capacitors in it. Had a friend of mine replace them and it starts and all but doesnt POST. Voltage for the cpu is there so PSU seems fine. I think it might be due to a corrupted BIOS. Is there anyone here owning a Firebox x500, x700, x1000 or x2500 that could dump the bios so i could try it out. The models i listed are all the same hardware apart from different cpus/memory.

Hi
I have a firebox x700, running pfsense. If you could point me in the right direction on how to dump the bios, I'll be happy to help.
Just to point out, my unix knowledge is zero, but I can read step by steps ;-)

I have a watchguard FIREBOX III 700 (old unit) can use this to run pfsense instead? could I expect better performance and throughput doing this?

Hi,
I'm extracted the bios from my firebox but it's an X6000 so a different beast. However the procedure should be the same. See my post here: http://forum.pfsense.org/index.php/topic,25011.msg133174.html#msg133174
Probably best to read the surrounding few posts too.
Basically you boot from a CF card with freedos on it. You need that to run awdflash (assuming it's an award bios). The image I link to is already configured to switch to a serial console.@nambi: the X-core and X-peak are both much more powerful than the firebox 111. Both have hardware encryption on board but only the X-core encryption is supported by pfsense.
