Port 80 HTTP
-
Hi Brand new only been here about 5 minutes. Hope this is the right place for this question. I did a Shields up test yesterday It showed that Port 80 Http was open. How vulnerable am I if it stays open and how do I close it?
Thanks in advance -
From where did you scan ?
From the internet to your WAN IP ?
Inside the network to the LAN IP ?Have you enabled HTTPS instead of HTTP on the managment part ?
More info is definitivly needed.

I'm not real computer savvy. Hope this helps.I'm using Verizon wireless to connect to the Internet I took the file sharing and common ports Shields up tests. File sharing passed with flying colors. Common ports failed Test showed that all ports are closed except 23 TELNET which is stealth, and 80 HTTP which is open. couple more questions. Hope you don't mind. Am I in danger of lots of bad things, viruses and the like invading my computer, with port 80 open?
Are the closed ports o.k. or should they all be stealth.
Thanks for your help. -
do you allow remote access to the FW? or any other device? if so thats your issue.

Sorry I don't know what remote access to the FW means I don't even know what FW stands for

firewall
it could be the modem -
What others are trying to say is that you may have a modem or a router in front (on the WAN side of pfSense) of pfSense that is the device that is responding to shields up probes. PfSense by default would block any connections from the outside and it sounds like you haven't yet opened any ports on pfSense so it's probably something else than pfSense that has port 80 open.

O.K. I actually understood quite a bit of your post. Thank you. your saying that it's probably not pfSense thats keeping port 80 open. Now comes the questions. My Modem/router is the one supplied by Verizon. I notice pfSense is mentioned a lot on this forum. It kind of feels like if you don't know what pfSense is,you shouldn't even be on this forum. Well. I don't know what it means. You mention the modem/router might be in front of (on the WAN side of pfSense) If this is not a good thing. Is there away I can change it? finally What is WAN?
I know I'm asking dumb questions. Thanks in advance for trying to help me out.Almost forgot I'd really like to know how vulnerable I am to viruses, spyware, trogans and the like with port 80 open.I have lots of protection. Does that make a difference?

Can you log into this page?
http://192.168.1.1/firewall_nat.php assuming this is your router address
Anything there?

If your port 80 is opened it means that you are allowing http access to your internal servers or firewall from the internet. If you are using windows you will forever be attacked by viruses, trojans and stuff like that, it is fact of life on windows. PFsense is a firewall which makes access to your internal network more safer if you configure it correctly. I do believe that it doesn't matter what firewall you use if it is not configured properly it will not protect you the way you expect it. It is best to do more research on firewalling and tcpip as you need this knowledge before doing it yourself.
