Using spare storage
-
We use pfsense primarily for content and user control - it actually runs behind a seperate hardware firewall that handles most of our defebce needs.
I suspect like many people the pfSense environment ises only a small percentage of the available disk space available (we used an old 1u server (twin xeon, 4gb and 2 x128GB disks) and pfsense 1.2.3 worls perfectly running squid, squidguard, havp, lightsquid - but using about 10% of total disk storage.
Has anyone loaded a package that would present this storage to the LAN side for use by clients - SAMBA,NFS,iSCSI etc
Thanks in advance
Andrew

No and it won't happen.
A firewall is not a fileserver. However since you are already running squid: why don't you tweak the caching a bit so it stores more/longer?

Some do mess with files on there firewall.

I know this is not designed as a file server - but our primary use is as a content filter, main firewall is seperate hardware.
Thanks for the links - I suspect some experimentation is in order.
